Is GTA 5 for next gen consoles going to be a PS4 exclusive?

Question To Ponder: Why is the Xbox One not mentioned in the leaked GTA 5 source code config file?

Obviously there is one big assumption I’m making. Dare I say that Rockstar will be releasing more versions of GTA V? Dare to argue that? I’ve spent some time pondering previous leaks and rumors regarding Grand Theft Auto 5 and what might be next. There has been more than enough smoke coming from GTA V PC rumors to suggest it’s coming. As they say, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. It’s really the next generation consoles that have the big question mark. Will Rockstar or won’t Rockstar release it for the new consoles?

You might recall a couple weeks ago there was some source code leaked from the GTA 5 config file. If you think that leaked code was fake, then I’m curious why the Take-Two legal team asked this site to remove the content. See the article in question here. Was that because the game was pre release or was there another reason for that stiff action? Regardless, either you believe that leaked information is fake or it is real. If you believe it’s fake, then read no further. Consider what the author at cinemablend.com says about the source code file:

Could someone have wasted their time to type out nearly 2,000 lines of code and paste it online and say it’s from the Xbox 360 version? Yes, very much so. However, I’m here to tell you from personal experience, it’s easier to have copied the contents of the file from the leaked torrent and uploaded it online than to re-type it. – William Usher, CinemaBlend.com

From the code, people were able to surmise that a PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and PS4 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 were referenced. So looking at that source code, people have noted that it references Orbis which is the code name for the PS4’s operating system when working with the dev kit.

Here is the ultimate question. Why is there is no reference to Xbox One? I think the people who dug up the code and looked at it are pretty smart people who know what they are looking at. If they don’t find a Xbox One reference, then I put some weight in that. At the time, nobody questioned it. Nobody even thought curious about it. Was it buried and people weren’t able to identify it within that source code? Or, is it as I’m suggesting that GTA V for the next generation consoles could be a PlayStation 4 exclusive? Perhaps you think that’s far fetched or simply absurd.

Consider the existing relationship between Rockstar and Sony. Consider though that Rockstar and Sony have exclusives for the marketing of Grand Theft Auto 5. All the advertising banners mentioned and showed PS3, not Xbox 360. Sure that’s part of the deal between both Rockstar and Sony, but it still shows a preference. It’s called a licensing agreement or something of the like. The PlayStation 3 has the bundles for GTA V, Xbox 360 doesn’t. PS3 has the GTA V headset, the Xbox 360 does not. There is definitely a relationship there already and there has been on other GTA releases also.

The question of course is whether Rockstar would limit the next  generation release to only one console. Financially it doesn’t seem logical. Money generally plays the biggest role in these decisions. Given that Grand Theft Auto has never been an “exclusive”, why would they suddenly do that now?

One other thought regarding GTA V as a PS4 exclusive is this. It is revenue certainty for Rockstar. Considering the release date of the game and then the release date of the next generation consoles, there is some unknowns. As in, Rockstar and nobody else can really say who is going to buy for the old generation consoles and participate in an upgrade program. There could be something to this idea of taking the sure money vs. running the risk of depending on gamers buying both versions of the game. If Rockstar has to offer the next generation GTA 5 for a $10 upgrade, an exclusive deal might start looking more palatable. It’s because of the timing that an exclusive might make financial sense for Rockstar to do.

Consider also Sony’s aggressive campaign to win the next generation console wars. To have exclusive next generation rights to a title like Grand Theft Auto 5 would be a real feather in the cap for Sony don’t you think? A single video can in fact sway people to buy one console over another. Think GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64 for starters. People bought the console just to play that game.

What are your thoughts? Am I putting too much emphasis on the leaked source code which oddly has no mention of Xbox One? Do you feel that the lack of mention of Xbox One in this code leak is irrelevant to whether it’s a possible PS4 exclusive? But answer me this. If the Xbox One isn’t listed in the code, why is it not there? Ultimately it comes down to whether you think that the lack of Xbox One mention is a result of an error from the people viewing the code or is it something along the line of what I’m suggesting, a PS4 exclusive.

GTA 5 Invincibility Cheat – Button Codes for Xbox 360 and PS3

The #1 most wanted cheat for GTA V has been found! Invincibility is now here for you to enjoy, but with one small irritating issue. It’s on a 5 minute timer! Yep, after 5 minutes you must enter in these button codes to re-activate the invincibility cheat. Who knows, based on some comments from gamers, people are a tad upset at this. I would imagine Rockstar is pretty gamer friendly and a game update could remedy the situation rather easily I think. For now, enjoy the heck out of this cheat and reek some havoc on Los Santos! Note: this invincibility will not apply to the vehicle you’re in and you can’t use it while in a mission or pastime!

GTA 5 Invincibility Xbox 360:

Right, A, Right, Left, Right, RB, Right, Left, A, Y

GTA V Invincibility Cheat PS3:

GTA Online RMT – Real money in GTAO?

There is some rumors out there that GTA Online will utilize a real money transaction element. Of course we aren’t at October 1st and there hasn’t been any news out of Rockstar regarding RMT in GTAO. You can see a reference regarding GTAO and RMT cash in some leaked beta changelogs. Of course those need to be taken with a grain of salt. That said, certainly buying things in-game with real cash isn’t new and quite possible is going to become very common with new games. The wider online audience, the more a RMT system makes place. Cash for cash? Perhaps. Maybe we can buy custom or unique items that we can take into GTA Online.

Beta changelogs in PS3 version of GTA V further evidence of PC version

It’s incredible what can happen when a game is so popular and so anticipated. Take the PC GTA 5 version. A reddit user has done a bit of sleuthing in the PS3 version of GTA V and has discovered various references to PC, DX11 and x64. You can view the technical details, but as Hal_Nein_Thousand says, it proves that the PC version has been worked on along side the console version almost since the beginning. I think that’s the key here.

There is no official word from Rockstar about a possible GTA 5 PC version although there have been numerous online game stores posting preorders for a PC version in addition to some of those pre orders being estimated with a shipping date in November 2013. All speculation at this point, but it does seem more and more likely that a 2013 release is possible.

1 Billion in 3 days for Grand Theft Auto 5 Sales – You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet

Untitled-1A while back we predicted that GTA V was going to be the greatest video game in history. Just now, Rockstar/Take-Two is saying they reached 1 billion in sales in just 3 days. The closest game to get to 1 billion? That was last year with Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 which took 15 days to reach that level of sales. That’s pretty astonishing when you think about it. It almost makes you think that this level of sales and record will be unbeatable. With the leaks recently of the PC version of GTA 5, you should be able to add some more revenue before the years end.

Is the record going to be safe or not? Afterall, that pesky and popular Call of Duty series has a new game coming out this Fall and it will be available for many more systems than GTA 5. I’m not so sure about COD Ghosts. Yes players can upgrade their PS3 or Xbox 360 versions to the new console versions for just $10 and that will give some double dipping revenues. I just don’t know if the hype is there for Ghosts. Sure players jumped onto GTA V on the last generation consoles, but this game reached a fever pitch. I wonder if those COD fans will hold out and buy Ghosts when they get the consoles at a later date.

All this said, I think it’s a virtually certainty that we’re going to see a PC version sometime in November. Hard to imagine there not being a Xbox One and PS4 version too at some point. Throw in mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad and Android and you start to realize there is a massive earnings potential here. If Rockstar is able to hit a homerun with GTA Online and excellent DLC, then this franchise is just starting to hit its stride.

Greatest video game of all time? Looks pretty promising right now I’d say.

Are you losing vehicle upgrades? Vehicles disappearing from your garage in GTA 5?

Update September 22, 2013: Rockstar has identified a possible cause for this issue: “This issue may occur if you drive another character’s personal vehicle. We are looking into a fix to prevent this from occurring in the future.”

Okay, there is a lot of discussion and confusion out there regarding vehicles that are randomly losing upgrades or are simply disappearing from garages. Not sure if this is good news or bad news, but Rockstar is aware of this issue and is apparently working on fixing it. Folks, it looks like we’re headed quickly to Patch #1 for Grand Theft Auto 5 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Here is a quote from Rockstar on their website:

“We have received some reports about problems with cars and garages, particularly after upgrading and then completing a mission, and are looking into this now.” – Rockstar.com

I would imagine this is a high priority bug in the game and a resolution should be coming very soon. We will update with news of a fix. Until then, I suppose we all just have to deal with a bit of random disappointments regarding our beloved vehicles.

PC Grand Theft Auto 5 leaks keep on coming

Here is the latest leak of an apparent PC version of GTA V. We’ve seen some retailers in the past put up a holder page for a PC version and we’ve also seen a EBGames store photo with GTA 5 PC boxes on store shelves for pre order.

Now this:

Thanks to C1aw from Reddit.

Next up, we have the UK online video game store GameSeek. They have a nice juicy GTA 5 PC page with a listed (estimated) release date of November 22, 2013. Far fetched? On its own perhaps, but GameSeek aren’t the only ones listed a date for release.

Next up, there is now Zavvi which is a German online video game retailer. They too have a Grand Theft Auto 5 PC listing and their release date is estimated as being December 6, 2013. That said, they say this about the suggested PC version release date:

“The release date we have for GTA: Grand Theft Auto V (5) is a placeholder date, and will be updated when Rockstar confirm the Release date to us.”

So Zavvi is saying it’s coming, but the date could be wrong. My personal view on this is that December is a poor month for a video game release. With Christmas shopping, I would strongly suggest November is far more realistic. Of course that’s speculation on my part, but at least both leaks here are indicating a 2013 release for the PC version.

So I think at this point we’re getting past the point of “if”, and to the point of “when”. This is very exciting! You should also consider the recent leaks of the PC references in the iFruit iOS app recently to go along with these online stores mentioned pre orders and release dates. I expect something official very soon!
